Asia's first summit on sports, sustainability, and climate emergency at an altitude of 11,000 ft above sea level in Leh, Ladakh.
Climate 11 Summit takes you to the heart of the climate crisis. At what is ground zero of the consequences of climate change, you will meet people whose lives are affected by changing weather patterns and discuss how, in the fight against climate change, sports can be a platform, partner, and action-enabler.
Welcome to
Climate11
Summit
Surrounded by the serene beauty of the Himalayas, Join us to be part of a groundbreaking dialogue on how sport can help responsibly protect its ecosystems amid the planet's ongoing climate emergency.
Climate change is emerging as a significant threat to global sports, affecting athletes, events, and communities. Rising temperatures, extreme weather, and deteriorating air quality are already impacting sports at all levels.
Globally, 20% of Olympic nations are at high risk of disappearing due to climate impacts. By 2050, half of the cities that hosted Winter Olympics may be unable to do so due to global warming. This raises significant questions about the future of global sporting events and the sustainability of current practices
- Regions like Ladakh are particularly vulnerable. Global warming has led to glacier melting in the Hindu Kush Himalayan Range, causing severe water crises.
- Warmer temperatures and greenhouse gases have increased ice melting and evaporation. As glaciers dry up, locals and tourists strain limited groundwater reserves.
- Extreme weather events challenge Ladakh’s ability to host sports and threaten athletes’ health and performance.
Addressing these issues is crucial for India's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics.
Sports unify India’s diverse population, breaking barriers of poverty, class, and caste. Athletes can inspire and mobilize communities for sustainable practices and climate action. This summit will explore the relationship between climate impacts and sports, reinforcing sports’ role in promoting sustainability and resilience.
